Honeycrisp
Honeycrisp Story
- Honeycrisp is a medium – large sized, predominantly bi-coloured apple, that was bred, and is owned by the University of Minnesota, USA.
- Honeycrisp is a managed variety in NZ. McGrath Licensed Varieties Ltd (MLVL) holds all rights. MLVL has sublicensed NZ to You Limited (NZTY) to promote the planting, and administer the harvesting, packing, marketing and sale of apples of the Variety in New Zealand and in export markets. RD8 is the appointed Logistics Service provider for the variety.
Honeycrisp Experience
- Honeycrisp is characterised by a creamy white flesh that is fantastically crisp and aromatic. A balanced content of sugar and acid gives the apple a delicate sweet-tart balance and a light honey / berry flavour. The French refer to it as the ‘Champagne Apple’, because it is explosively sweet and juicy.
- Honeycrisp is a relatively early season apple, being harvested from mid to late February depending on location. It is predominantly exported to the USA and Canada, and is available from April – September.
